The 36-year-old Canadian actor who came out as gay for the very first time in 2014, and a transgender in December 2020, has revealed that there was a time when he was having a secret relationship with the House of Cards actress named Kate Mara.
In his upcoming memoir, Pageboy, the Juno star documented his past relationship with Kate Mara and also revealed many different truths about his life which most people do not know.
The Inception alum, who was once prominent as Ellen Page, had been silently dating Mara in 2014 when the 40-year-old actress was having a relationship with Max Minghella.
However, in 2014, Kate split with the Babylon star after over four years of dating. Now she is the wife of her Fantastic Four co-star Jamie Bell and also has two kids with him.
“The first person I fell for after my heart was broken was Kate Mara. She had a boyfriend at the time, the lovely and talented Max Minghella,” Page mentioned in his book, as per an excerpt received by PEOPLE.
He described that his relationship with the Fantastic Four alum was ‘safe’ because she was not completely available due to her commitment to The Handsmaid’s Tale actor.
“This was right after I’d come out as gay [in 2014], and it was a time of exploration and also heartbreak. I think my relationship, or whatever you want to call it with Kate, very much encapsulates a certain dynamic that I consistently found myself in, which was falling for people that — I think a lot of us do this — who aren’t fully available.”
He also told, “And the sort of safety in that and the highs and the lows and the serotonin bump, and then it goes away.”
The Oscar nominee further revealed that he still shares a great bond with Kate, 40 and they both love and care for one another.
“I think the love and care that we have for each other is it’s very own special thing. Separate from the intimacy that I write about.”
The duo have worked on so many projects together. In 2014, Elliot and Kate appeared together in Tiny Detectives. After three years, they did another movie as an on-screen couple, where the two actors portrayed the role of two women falling in love with one another in My Days of Mercy.
However, when the movie was released in 2019, the former couple had already ended their relationship.
After their breakup, both of them moved on and tied the knot with different persons – Kate got married to the Fantastic Four actor, Jamie Bell in 2017, on the other hand, Page married Emma Portner in 2018. In 2020, the pair parted ways and finalized their divorce in 2021.
