The Colombian and American actress and television personality, Sofia Vergara divorced her husband named Joe Manganiello after seven years of marriage in 2023. In July, the former couple finalized their divorce without sharing the reasons which led to their separation. However, Vergara has started opening up about it.
While talking with the entertainment reporter from PopCulture.Com, Anna Rumer, the actress talked about the main reason behind their divorce.
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” Vergara told Rumer.
“I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.”
The age gap between the couple was just four years but it was making visible differences in their relationship.
The actress who is famous for her role in ‘Modern Family’ gave birth to her only son, who is now 32-years-old when Vergara was just 19, and now she has been feeling that the motherhood stage has been over for her.
And at this age, she is ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.
“I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.”
“So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children.”
Acknowledging the natural progression of life, she added, “I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things.”
“When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while, and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do.”
Vergara, who was under public scrutinity at the entire time, already knew that the news of her split would grab so much attention.
“You’re always in the public eye and people are watching your every move. For that reason, I knew it was gonna happen.”
Talking about the inevitability of the people after knowing about her split, she said,
“You can’t hide those things,”
But according to the actress, she was surprised and satisfied with the way media handling the news of her split.
“I think, you know, I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice. It wasn’t bad.”
“And I thought that they were gonna invent more things, and you know how it usually is…”
“I was surprised and, you know, they, they kind of just said what it was and, and that was it,” She expressed the feeling of relief regarding the media coverage of her split.
Now the 51-year-old actress, Sofia Vergara, looks forward to moving on in her life and gearing up for the new things ahead as she is hoping to be a grandmother.
