A young mother has recently caused a stir on TikTok after uploading a time-lapse video of her newborn baby.
She uploaded a short video clip on the account under the user name Lara (@laraticaofficial), where her daughter, Lara who was just a day old at that time was seen lying on the hospital bed, and then instantly the video switched and showed her as a four-month-old baby.
Her caption read, “1 Day VS. 4 Months.”
She further added, “The time past too fast. Missing you being this small.”
It was just a ‘Then’ vs. ‘Now’ video for her but the TikTok users noticed the baby’s ear piercing in the video and sparked a debate on the platform.
In the footage she showed her baby, wearing small stud earrings and when it suddenly changed to the current footage, the studs vanished and the 4-month-old Lara was seen wearing silver hoops.
The video went viral and received almost 1.1 million views and thousands of people commented on the video. Many people heavily criticized the mother and said her a cold-hearted woman for getting her one-day-old baby’s ear pierced.
“How could a mom do this to a one-day-old? I’m shook.” Someone commented.
“Wait, so they Pierce her ears in the hospital?” A comment read.
“The baby was still in the damn hospital bed but had earrings on??? What is this behavior?!!!” Another one wrote.
“So do they pierce the ears before they cut the cord?” a sarcastic viewer asked in the comments,
“How is that ear piercing even legal?” an agitated commenter wrote.
While the comments section was flooded with sarcastic remarks and questions, some people praised her daughter’s beauty and gave sweet compliments to the baby for looking adorable in those ear studs.
“Literally in awe of how beautiful she is; she looks almost unreal!” A girl wrote under the video.
Some people supported the young mother and said that they also had done the same thing because they had to as it’s a part of their cultures.
“You all are so judgmental! In my culture, we pierce as infants. I have three daughters and had theirs pierced; none flinched nor had any problems.” A mother commented.
“I am in America, and my ears were pierced just like this…” another user commented.
According to the reports, the woman belongs to Columbia. She didn’t reveal her name, but while talking to the outlet, she said that she didn’t care about what people thought of her and did what she thought was suitable for her daughter.
As per Newsweek reports, the mother of little Lara who didn’t reveal her name belongs to Colombia. When she talked to the outlet she told that she didn’t care about people who think she did something wrong with her daughter because she knows what is best for her daughter and did what was suitable for her.
“There are a lot of mischievous comments ‘Why did I pierce my little girl’s ears so young?’ Well, the answer is because I wanted to and that it is possible in our country. I think a few days after birth is much more non-traumatic for a child to pierce their ears than when they are one or two. Lara had no reaction when the doctors gave her the holes.”
According to the Daily Mail, the young mother further said that newly born babies have very soft ear lobes that’s why they don’t feel much pain during piercing as when it happened to her daughter, she didn’t even move a little bit.
