The 64-year-old actress named Bassett has faced heavy criticism from people as she did not stand up or clapped when Jamie Lee Curtis, 64, won the award for the Best Supporting Actress.
Curtis was nominated for her movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Bassett was also included in the nomination list of that category for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
As the announcement made for the winner in the category, Angela’s disappointment began because it was not her but Jamie Lee Curtis. Angela could not stop her self showing her disappointment and it started appearing on her face.

She looked so heartbroken and upset at the same time as compared to her other fellow nominees including Kerry Condon, Stephanie Hsu, and Hong Chau, who all were looking happy for Jamie despite losing against her.
Following Jamie’s win, Bassett’s weird reaction became viral on the social media and many people called out her for not celebrating Jamie’s win and said that she should not have acted like a ‘sore loser’.

“Angela Bassett is a fantastic actress. A shame she didn’t continue performing tonight and applaud when Jamie Lee won. Everyone wants to win. However, most won’t. That’s life. And sore loser is never a good look,” someone wrote.
“All you saying Angela Bassett should’ve won over Jamie lee… her reaction was poor sportsmanship,” another said.
“Regardless of who won that Oscar … Angela Bassett could have clapped for the winner. To just sit there and not clap because you didn’t win,” a third one penned.
Nevertheless, some fans of the actress came forward and defended her by saying that it was natural to react like this as she was expecting to win the award.
“Angela Bassett is allowed to be visibly disappointed that she didn’t win the Oscar,” one fan wrote.
Angela Bassett is allowed to be visibly disappointed that she didn't win the Oscar. Stop calling black women bitter and not classy for being human. She didn't disparage Curtis in any way.

“I actually appreciate that Angela didn’t put on a face for the sake of being a ‘good sport.’” Another commented.
I actually appreciate that Angela didn’t put on a face for the sake of being a “good sport.” I think as Black women, especially in the arts, we so often feel we aren’t allowed to show disappointment; but that’s a shared human emotion that shouldn’t have to be suppressed. #Oscars

“I’m glad she didn’t fake a reaction to entertain idiots telling us how a Black woman should handle Hollywood once again throwing awards at White women. I like Jamie Lee Curtis but she didn’t outperform Angela Basset or Stephanie Hsu,” another user commented.

“Please shut up. Angela Bassett has been snubbed for an Oscar [for] decades, she’s not allowed to feel or look disappointed?” a fan questioned.

“Good for Angela Bassett not smiling nor clapping. Y’all expect Black women to not only be exceptional, but be happy for other [sic] who get accolades we deserve over and over,” another said.
