Iranian couple has been sentenced to a decade in prison for filming their dancing video.
As per reports, on November 2022, 21-year-old Astiyazh Haghighi was arrested along with her fiance named Amir Mohammad Ahmadi as they were filming a romantic video while dancing in front of Tehran’s Azadi Tower.
When the video went viral on the internet, the authorities quickly arrested the couple.

As per The Guardian, “A revolutionary court in Tehran sentenced them each to 10 years and six months in prison, as well as imposing bans on using the internet and leaving Iran, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said.”
In the viral video clip, Haghighi was seen without wearing headscarf while enjoying with her partner in public place, which is against to the strict rules of the country.
The couple were arrested by authorities for “encouraging corruption and public prostitution” in the state.
According to the BBC reports, on November 2022, the duo shared the dancing video on their Instagram accounts. Two of them almost have two million followers on the social media platform.
Before they were arrested, the concerned authorities raided at Astiyazh’s family home as a search operation.
“It is unclear how long the sentence is for each of the separate convictions they are facing. They have each been sentenced to a total of 10 and a half years – a combined sentence for the charges,” wrote BBC.
“If their verdicts are upheld, they will have to serve the longest one of those sentencing terms.”
It was revealed by the related sources to the couple that they both were not allowed to hire a lawyer for them, and their bail was also rejected by the court.
As per The Guardian, “It said Haghighi was now in Qarchak prison for women, outside Tehran, whose conditions are regularly condemned by activists. ”
Many citizens have been arrested and tortured by Iran’s government when they raised their voices in the name of freedom of choice.
It all started happening after a 22-year-old Iranian woman named Mahsa Amini was murdered brutally by the morality police for not covering her head properly.
Mahsa’s death sparked nationwide protests against their government and its oppressed policies for women of the country.
CBSC news reported,
