Johnny Depp is now at peace as the bitter phase of his life has been over now, since his ex-wife, Amber Heard decided to pay the concession amount of $1 million.
On Monday, December 19, the Rum Diary actress made an announcement via her Instagram account, where she wrote that she finally made the extremely difficult decision of her life as she decided to settle the defamation claims which were brought against her by her ex-husband, Depp in Virginia.
In her recent Instagram post, heard wrote,
“It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as a I knew it was destroyed. The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimised when they come forward.”
She also added that she didn’t make a decision as an act of concession, “Now I finally have an opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago and on terms, I can agree to. I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession. There are no restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward.”
She said that she has no more energy and time to waste because her time is precious that’s why she decided to not waste it anymore by engaging herself in to an arduous and expensive lawful process.
“Time is precious and I want to spend my time productively and purposefully. For too many years I have been caged in an arduous and expensive legal process, which has shown itself unable to protect me and my right to free speech. I cannot afford to risk an impossible bill – one that is not just financial, but also psychological, physical and emotional. Women shouldn’t have to face abuse or bankruptcy for spg her truth, but unfortunately it not uncommon.”
She also described that now she has lost all her faith in the American legal procedure, because it couldn’t provide her the justice she deserved and only wasted her time by making fun of her during the entire trial.
The Aquaman star also said that she tried her best to keep herself busy in work and it helped her a lot in her healing process after the traumatic divorce from ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
The 36-years-old actress concluded her long statement by thanking all the people who supported her through entire process and said that just because of her supporter she felt seen and heard.
“Any survivor knows that the ability to tell their story often feels like the only relief, and I cannot find enough words to tell you the hope your belief in me inspires, not just for me, but for all of you.”
At the end of her statement she wrote, “Thank you. See you soon.”
After Heard’s statement, Depp’s lawyer made an announcement on his behalf that he is feeling relieved as this whole thing is going to be end soon.
“We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp,” they wrote.
“We are pleased to formally close the door on this painful chapter for Mr. Depp, who made clear throughout this process that his priority was about bringing the truth to light,” shortly written by the Pirates of the Caribbean actor’s attorneys, Benjamin Chew and Camille Vazquez after Heard’s announcement.
“The jury’s unanimous decision and the resulting judgement in Mr. Depp’s favor against Ms. Heard remain fully in place,” the legal team also wrote.
“The payment of $1M – which Mr. Depp is pledging and will (actually) donate to charities – reinforces Ms. Heard’s acknowledgement of the conclusion of the legal system’s rigorous pursuit for justice.”
Heard and Depp has finally resolved their case nearly six months later since the Jury’s verdict came in Virginia Court, where the final conclusion was in favor of Depp.
The verdict was announced by the seven-member jury which stated that, in her 2018, op-ed Heard tried to defame her ex-husband, Depp and made erroneous accusations against him.
The actress portrayed herself as a domestic abuse survivor in her Washington Post. Even though she didn’t name and shame Depp directly but it was quite apparent that she was talking about him.
After false allegations against him, Depp sued her for fifty million dollars for badly defaming him and accusing him of being a terrible husband.
In response, Heard countersued Depp for a hundred million dollars by saying that her ex-husband had defamed her and named her claims ‘A blatant lie’ by setting up a dirty campaign against her.
As per court decision, Amber Heard was supposed to pay the amount of 10 million dollars in damages to her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
